Dream Cakes is an imaginary takeaway restaurant serving the sickly sweet aspirations you had as a child. But is it actually healthy to dwell on our unfulfilled fantasies? As adults we can become consumed with regret when looking back on what we gave up on, forgetting that the people we are now are so much more than we were ever able to dream of becoming.
On love and growing up (animation final draft)
This animation is based on an interview I did with my grandfather. During the interview, he describes his childhood dream of becoming a train driver, which he later laid aside in order to become a teacher, per his parents advice. This proved to be an unsatisfying career, which he looks back on with regret, but he found comfort in his loving marriage to my grandmother, and later his 3 children. He draws the conclusion that even when one finds oneself in an imperfect work situation, happiness can be found in the arms of the people one goes home to at the end of the day.
Looking Back on Life (animation 1st draft)
Shadows
This shoot documents tea for two, featuring a box of Childhood Fancies. These sugary sweet treats taste nice every once in a while, but they hardly make for a healthy balanced diet.
Do You Really Want This? SHAPING SHAPES
This installation, aimed at teenagers, was put up in one of the toilet cubicles at Westfield shopping centre. In a moment of isolation, away from peer pressure and the opinions of other people, the viewer is forced to contemplate whether the future they are pursuing is really what they want. Is their heart in what they are doing, or are they simply following whatever their parents, their teachers, their friends expect of them?
